Map Manager

Map Manager makes it easy to keep track of large projects by allowing you to store map favorites, map meta data and hyperlinks. You can find these tools in the »Map Manager« task pane which can be accessed by pressing Ctrl+1, selecting the corresponding tab at the right part of the window or choosing the »Window« > »Map Manager« menu.

Map favorites

Add frequently used maps to your list of map favorites. You can then access these maps rapidly from Map Manager or via the »Quick Start« window which is shown when you launch eminec MYmap. This works similarly to the »Bookmarks« or »Favorites« feature of your Internet browser.

How to add a favorite: Open the map you would like to add to the favorites, then click »Add to map favorites« in the »This map« area of the »Map Manager« task pane (Ctrl+1). This will work for maps that have been saved at least once only.

How to open a favorite: eminec MYmap will show the three latest favorites in the area »All Maps« of the task pane »Map Manager«. Click any name to open the corresponding map. You can view the entire list by clicking the command »Map favorite manager...« or by selecting the menu »File« > »Map favorites...«. Additionally, the »Quick Start« window will appear whenever the program is launched; select the tab »Map favorites« to access the Map favorite manager as well. Then select a favorite and click »Open«.

How to delete a favorite: Open Map favorite manager as described above, select a favorite, then click »Delete«. This will delete the link from the map favorites list; the map itself is being retained.

Please note that the areas »All maps« and »This map« will appear in the »Map Manager« task pane whenever no object is selected in your map. Click the empty area of your map view window to remove any object selection.

Map meta data

eminec MYmap can store the following information about the author and the last editor of a document in your maps:

In order to use this feature, select »Tools« > »Settings...« (Ctrl+K) and enter your personal data in the »Personal data« section. Use the check boxes of the »Inclusion of personal data« group to enable or disable saving of this data as map meta data. Archive search also uses map meta data.

Map meta data is shown in the »Author« and »Editor« sections of the »Map Manager« task pane whenever no object is selected in your map.

Hyperlinks

You can add hyperlinks to your maps; these are references to other documents, just like hyperlinks on a web page. Hyperlinks are useful to split large amounts of information. Instead of one (very big) map, you create a set of small files that refer to each other. You can also create links to resources that are not available as maps (e. g. a Microsoft Excel table). This increases clarity and makes it easy to update maps collaboratively (each person is responsible for a well-defined portion that is referred to from a master map).

In eminec MYmap, you can link to a map or to a different file type using the same procedure. Maps are being opened in eminec MYmap automatically; eminec MYmap will determine the application required to open other file types (e. g. Microsoft Word or your Internet browser) and will then open the document with that application. The file location does not matter either: you may specify a relative or an absolute path (inside your local file system) or an URL for file locations on your organization's intranet or the Internet.

You can create a distinct list of hyperlinks for each object. This list appears whenever you select that object. Exactly one hyperlink can be defined as default; it can be opened directly from the map view window by clicking the compass rose next to the specific object.

How to create a hyperlink: Select an object, and go to the »Map Manager« (Ctrl+1) task pane. Enter the entire URL into the field »Address« (which can be found in the »New hyperlink« section), then click »Add«. Your link will appear in the »Existing hyperlinks« list, and a compass rose will be displayed next to the object in the map view window. You may also click »Browse...« (instead of manually entering an URL) to select a file as a link target.

How to follow a hyperlink: Select an object in the map view window, and go to the task pane »Map Manager« (Ctrl+1). If you click the compass rose near the object, the object is also being selected and eminec MYmap will automatically open the right task pane. The link will be shown in the »Existing hyperlinks« section. Double-click the link to activate it.

How to delete a hyperlink: Click a link in the »Existing hyperlinks« section of the »Map Manager« task pane, then click the red X. Use the red double-X to delete all hyperlinks associated to one object.

Document recovery

eminec MYmap will automatically save your documents in pre-defined intervals. This minimizes data loss in the case of power outages, computer faults or software crashes.

Use the »Document recovery« tool to access these backups. Select »(All) Programs« > »eminec MYmap XG« > »Tools« > »Document Recovery« from the Windows start menu to open the program.

Click the »Open temporary folder« button to reveal the folder where MYmap stores auto-backup files in Windows Explorer. You can then move the document you wish to restore to your »My Documents« folder (or any other location) using the normal Windows procedures. MYmap will not delete any backup files automatically; the size of the temporary folder increases over time. Use the Windows »Disk Cleanup utility« or click the »Cleanup temporary folder« button to irrevocably delete old backups.

View options

Use the features »Hide/show sub-branches« and »Full screen mode« to customize how your maps are shown. This increases efficiency of your map editing sessions.

Hide/show sub-branches

You can hide branches to increase clarity of larger maps. Point to a branch in the map view window; a triangle/arrow pointing to the object will appear near it. Click the arrow to hide all subordinate objects. You can also point to any part of the object and click the scroll wheel, right-click the branch and select »Hide/show sub-branches« from the context menu or press Ctrl+H.

Whenever objects are hidden, a triangle/arrow pointing away from the superordinate object will be shown near it permanently. Use any of the hiding methods described above, and eminec MYmap will show the objects that are directly subordinate again. If there is a larger hierarchy subordinate to the object, you can right-click the object and then select the context command »Show all sub-branches« to show all subordinate levels.

Full screen mode

Full screen mode will hide the following components:

In this mode, the space available for editing your maps is maximized: only the menu bar and the map view window are visible.

Activate full screen mode by pushing Tab; use the same procedure to return to standard mode. Alternatively, select the menu command »View« > »Full screen mode«.
