Opening MYmap
Now that you have installed your new software, you may wonder: Where do I start? What should I do first? What should I know before I begin? eminec MYmap offers myriad possibilities to brainstorm, organize and share ideas.
Well, the best thing to do would be to open eminec MYmap, and to just start using it! The user interface of eminec MYmap with its guide, which will give you valuable tips and tricks as you start working with the software, is very intuitive. It will help you getting used to the program in virtually no time.
Click the »eminec MYmap« icon to start your eminec MYmap session. You may find the icon at »Start« > »All programs« > »eminec MYmap« > »eminec MYmap« — and possibly also on your desktop. (You will need to double-click the desktop icon.)
Some seconds later, the »Quick start« window of eminec MYmap will appear.
»Quick start« window
The »Quick start« window allows you to access your recently used documents easily:

As you have not edited any documents so far, the list is still empty. You can also create a new map. Please click »New map« to do so.
The »New map« window appears.

The »New map« window allows you to specify settings for your new map:

- If you are using the Premium or Academic version, select the checkbox Brainstorming with »zzap« to start a brainstorming session (see chapter 7).
- Click Password... to encrypt your map. (This will bring up a new window »Document properties«.)
- Click Options... to configure basic settings like the auto-save time interval.
- Click OK to create the new map.
You may now access the workspace of eminec MYmap, which is shown in the program window.
Workspace
The workspace looks as follows:

- The large, blank area is used to display and edit your map and is therefore called Map view window.
- The Map tray area is located directly to the left of the Map view window. On its top, you can find the Trashcan, which you can use to remove objects from your map.
- Above the Map view window and the Map tray area, you can find the Document bar, where you can see the name of the map that is currently open.
- In the right part of the program window, you can see the Task pane, which allows you to access all essential map editing tools, such as »Formatting objects« or »Editing classes«.
- In the top part of the window, you can find the Menu bar and the Toolbar, just like in other applications; the Status bar is located in the bottom part.
- The Guide window is shown in the bottom left here, but it can be moved freely. It contains usage tips for eminec MYmap.
By pushing the Tab key or by choosing the menu command View > Full screen mode, all elements except for the Map view window and the Menu bar are hidden. This maximizes the space that is available for your map. The same command is also used to restore the hidden elements.
