Working together
The feature »Online Interaction« (»OI«) allows multiple users of eminec MYmap to work on the same map document at the same time via the Internet or via your organization's intranet. »Online Interaction« also features a chat. To use this functionality, the standard installation of eminec MYmap is all you need. By using »Online Interaction«, you can easily collaborate worldwide.
Terminology
Every »Online Interaction« session is organized as a conference. Exactly one participant is the moderator, all the other participants are guests. The conference is closed as soon as the moderator leaves. At any given time, only one participant can have editing rights. All the other participants can only watch during this time; the moderator may withdraw editing rights. The participants can locate a particular conference via the conference directory service; the conference service provides communications during the conference.
System architecture
The conference service runs on an Online Interaction Conference Server (OICS). It is delivered with the standard installation of eminec MYmap and runs by default on the moderator's computer. If the network connection is not sufficient or if firewall rules deny access to this computer, it is a good idea to use a dedicated OICS. By default, communication takes place via port 80 (http), which means it is not possible to use the OICS in its standard configuration on a computer that is also used as a web server. (It is however possible to choose a different port.)
The moderator can announce a conference on the conference directory service, which runs on an Online Interaction Conference Directory Server (OICDS). This allows the other participants to find the conference. eminec provides a public OICDS.
How to start
Please choose the »Conference« Task pane by clicking the respective tab at the right end of the window or press the keys Ctrl+6.
